Greenways cost money – Money to buy land, money to build, money to maintain. Trails cost money – money for tools, for safety gear, for power equipment. Through the generosity of citizens and corporations in the Valley, we have done amazing projects like the Bridge the Gap drive to complete the Roanoke River Greenway, Purchasing land and Leading effort for the Hinchee Trail addition to Carvins Cove, and our building of the Rock-N-Roll and Midway Cruise at Carvins Cove just to name a few. Help us continue that tradition as we help extend the Greenway Network and build more local dirt trails.
VDOT owns a 26-mile right-of-way in Craig and Botetourt Counties and has some funding to develop it into a rail trail. Pathfinders has been helping by buying and donating 15 acres to be a trailhead, by clearing brush and trees, and by cleaning up tires (over 240 so far) and dumped household debris. You can help us with expenses like chippers, orange trash bags, and cable to pull out tires. Let’s help make Craig Botetourt Scenic Trail a great addition to our region.
Our greenways are special places. We continue to support this with funding for murals under bridges, interpretive signs, and sculptures. The benches along the trail provide resting places, as well as spots to watch the river and the birds.
