The sections of Roanoke River Greenway in Salem include a ¼-mile connection from Woodbridge Road to Mill Lane, a 3.5-mile section from West Riverside Park to Rotary Park, and a 0.6-mile section from Cook Drive to Barnhardt Creek. While these off-road sections are not continuous, it is relatively easy for bicycles to connect using on-street routes. The Woodbridge section has a parking lot and a short paved section connecting to the Woodbridge neighborhood. The section from West Riverside to Rotary includes four greenway bridges, four canoe launches, lots of fishing spots, and linkages to four parks. This section is prone to flooding in high water, so be careful if there is remaining debris. The last Salem section is behind Cook Drive and supports wildlife like deer and beaver. A bridge connecting the Cook Drive section to the City’s section near Peters Creek will be completed in 2021.
